General Requirements for Employment

  • Experience in the use of common hand and power tools is preferred but not necessary.
  • Must possess the physical strength and endurance to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 8 hours per day, and overtime, as required.
  • Must be willing to work through all four seasons.

General Job Duties of a Construction Equipment Operator

  • Understands the importance of and performs pre-operation inspections on equipment daily.
  • Certified to operate specific pieces of equipment but familiar with bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, skid loaders, track loaders, high lifts, man lifts, and all terrain forklifts.
  • Efficient in the operation of equipment to maintian production standards.
  • Communicates well with crew members while operating and constatnly monitors surroundings to ensure safe operations.
  • Able to troubleshoot minor equipment issues in the field.
  • Able to complete basic maintenance on equipment, as necessary.
  • Must assist with all other jobsite duties when not operating equipment.
  • Completes equipment clean up and greasing at the end of each day.

General Job Duties of a Concrete Carpenter

  • Must be proficient in the use of hand and power tools to effectively prepare materials and complete formwork for all cast in place concrete
  • Ability to properly form and brace concrete slabs, sidewalks, steps, foundations, walls, etc.
  • Familiar with reading and understanding blueprints and/or shop drawings in regard to concrete formwork.
  • Attentive to detail, meticulous with measurements and accuracy of installed work.
  • Able to lead and teach coworkers in proper forming techniques and procedures.
  • Astute with formwork issues, able to fix formwork issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Familiar with the accessroy materials that come with concrete prep work and how to install them properly.

General Job Duties of a Concrete Finisher

  • Able to place, straight edge, float, and wet edge concrete
  • Understands the importance of establishing and maintining grade in a concrete placement.
  • Understands concrete timing and the transition from plastic state to hardened state.
  • Effectively uses hand trowel along edges and walls to finish concrete.
  • Able to operate walk behind power trowel properly and efficiently.
  • Familiar with ride on power trowels and how to operate them.
  • Understands concrete curing and how to apply concrete sealants and/or curing compounds.
  • Able to install concrete crack control and operate soff cut concrete saws.

General Job Duties of a Foreman and Superintendent

  • Supervise and work alongside assigned daily crew.
  • Complete required paperwork such as daily logs, time sheets, winter weather reports, etc.
  • Direct and assist with site layout, as outlined in job specific blueprints.
  • Assure jobsites are kept safe and any work completed on behalf of Keith D. Smith Concrete Contractor, Inc. complies with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Keep open communication and work directly with site superintendent and project manager to coordinate necessary manpower, equipment, and materials.
  • Maintain a professional image for Keith D. Smith Concrete Contractor, Inc.
  • Assure satisfactory progress, completion, and cleanup of jobsite.

  • Understands what basic hand tools are and how to safely operate them.
  • Able to read a tape measure and show up, prepared with proper personal tools daily.
  • Able to listen, comprehend, and follow directions, as provided by the supervisor.
  • Understands differences in basic building materials.
  • Attentive to jobsite surroundings and cognizant of safety hazards within the workspace.
  • Communicates well, both vertically and horizontally, within the organization.
  • Display honesty, a good attitude, and a good work ethic
  • Lift and carry, balance, walk, stoop, place, utilize, and handle tools and materials relevant to the jobsite in a fast-paced environment
  • Daily jobsite cleanup and concrete cleanup as necessary to aid in longevity of tools and supplies
